Forests Offer More Than Scenic Beauty—They May Also Strengthen the Immune System

Forests are more than peaceful places to hike and explore—they may also play an important role in supporting human health. Researchers say that spending time in forest environments can strengthen the immune system through natural compounds released by trees and increased exposure to sunlight.

A practice known as forest bathing, which involves immersing oneself in the sights, sounds, and fresh air of a forest, has gained attention for its health benefits. Forests release phytoncides, natural chemicals that protect plants from fungi and bacteria. When people breathe in these compounds, they may stimulate the body's immune system by increasing the activity of white blood cells that help fight viruses and destroy tumor-infected cells.

Health experts say that while forests are not a replacement for medical care, regular visits to wooded areas can be a simple and natural way to support overall health. As more research highlights the connection between nature and wellness, forests continue to prove they are valuable not only for the environment but also for the well-being of the people who enjoy them.

Wildfire Awareness in Arizona Rim Country

As temperatures rise and fire danger increases across Arizona's Rim Country, staying informed and prepared is one of the best ways to protect your family and community. Even small sparks can quickly become fast-moving wildfires during dry, windy conditions.

Helpful Tools and Maps
Stay up to date on changing fire conditions and smoke impacts with these trusted resources:

  • Live Fire Maps: View active incidents and daily fire risk using the WeatherBug Fire Alert tracker.
  • Official Updates: Follow the Coconino National Forest Facebook page for current fire information, road closures, evacuation notices, and containment updates.
  • National Outlook: Monitor wildfire activity across the country through the official InciWeb Incident Information System.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Visit the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs at https://ein.az.gov for evacuation planning, preparedness tips, and emergency alerts.

Remember the 5 P's of Evacuation

  • People & Pets: Include livestock and the supplies they need.
  • Prescriptions: Medications, medical equipment, vision and hearing aids, batteries, power cords, face coverings, hand sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes.
  • Papers: Important documents, insurance information, identification, and emergency contacts (paper and electronic copies). Cont page 3
  • Personal Needs: Clothing, water, food, baby supplies, cash, credit cards, first aid kits, phones, chargers, and items needed by older adults or those with access and functional needs.
  • Priceless Items: Family photos, irreplaceable keepsakes, and other valuables.

Being prepared before wildfire threatens can make all the difference. Stay aware, have a plan, and be ready to act if conditions change.

Invest in the Future of

Clear Creek Pines 8 & 9

Clear Creek Pines 8 & 9 is quickly becoming one of the most desirable communities in our region. What makes us special isn't just our beautiful surroundings. It's the way we come together as neighbors.

We are proud to be a volunteer Property Owners Association. Together, we've created and maintained amenities that enhance our quality of life, including our convenient Mail Trail, our community Friendship Park, the sharing Library, and the ongoing transformation of our Community Lodge into services that benefit everyone.

While the Lodge may not appear dramatically different from the outside, significant progress is happening behind the scenes. We are nearing completion of both the Nurse Practitioner and Realtor offices. Because every step of this project is powered by volunteers, we don't have a firm completion date, but we're hopeful these spaces will be ready before fall.

To everyone who has already contributed your time, talents, or financial support—thank you. Your generosity is making a lasting difference.

As a volunteer community, we sometimes forget that our shared property depends entirely on the willingness of residents to invest in it. There is no outside organization funding these improvements. The future of our community belongs to all of us.

Our next major project is replacing the Lodge roof—a necessary investment that will protect everything we've worked so hard to build. This is a significant expense, but it becomes achievable when many neighbors contribute what they can. Whether it's a modest donation or a larger gift, every contribution moves us closer to our goal.

If you believe in the future of Clear Creek Pines 8 & 9 and would like to help preserve and improve this community for current and future residents, we invite you to participate.

To make a financial contribution or volunteer your time, please contact Maurice at 602-989-2661 or contribute through our website at clearcreek89.com. Click on the POA Store where you can pay with a credit card. Community Lodge Roof Donation. Goal $25,000 total needed.

Together, we are bringing our community property back to life. With your support, it will continue to be a place of pride, service, and connection for many years to come.
